Our retreats provide a sanctuary of time that is dedicated to your inner wellness, rejuvenation and nurturing.

Classes – Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga
We offer one weekly Ashtanga Vinyasa Mysore (self practice) class in the centre of Wanaka
Mondays, 5 – 7pm @ the Shala (https://shalawanaka.co.nz/)
A reservation is required for all classes, please book via: https://app.ubindi.com/Doris.&.Urs.Blum
Because of our small class size (max. 8 students), cancellations and no-shows affect us enormously. Thus, if you no-show or cancel after 12pm on the day of the class, you will be charged 100%. Please always call (not text) if you need to cancel.

Ashtanga is one of the most vigorous physical yoga practices. It is ideal for active people to balance all other physical activities, to harness the mind and to control the breath. This style of yoga has been very popular ever since its introduction to the Western Yoga world – and there are many reasons for it. It is one of the original and purest forms of Yoga. Its flowing movement synchronized with breath makes it a moving meditation. It energizes and purifies the body and it stills the mind.
In early 2021 we moved to Wanaka after having run a yoga studio (breathe yoga) in Havelock North for ten years. Doris has been trained by the legendary John Scott. Urs was lucky enough to learn under the guidance of the well-known Yoga Therapy teacher, Ganesh Mohan.
We live in a time where the busyness of the mind negatively affects our physical and mental well-being. Hence the stilling of the mind is paramount for good health. This practice makes your body strong and subtle and your mind becomes clearer and calmer. It is one of the most amazing Yoga methods to stay fit, healthy and to be mindful.
Mondays, 5-7pm: Ashtanga Vinyasa Yoga – Mysore (self practice)
Shala, 82 Brownston St (ODT building)
The Shala is at the back, thus it is easiest to enter from 32 Dungarvon St
Park on Dungarvon St (free or paid)
Students arrive in the first half hour of class and practice for as long as they like (minimum one hour). The Mysore class is suitable for anybody. Because of our small classes, a teacher is always at hand to guide, support, adjust and explain. The Ashtanga Vinyasa style attracts people who enjoy flowing movement synchronized with breath. It is a deeply cleansing practice for anybody (runner, biker, golfer, etc.) who benefits from stretching, strength and suppleness in body and calmness of mind. It is indeed a fantastic preparation for the skiing season and works well as a preventive practice against injuries.
The practice is easily tailored to anybody and any level. This class is guided by Doris (& Urs), two passionate teachers, who have shared a love for this practice for 28+ years and practise it on a regular basis. Together they are offering an in-depth knowledge into this amazing style of Yoga in a safe, welcoming and warm environment.
Make use of these special yoga classes held by two experienced teachers.
Reservation required. Please book via https://app.ubindi.com/Doris.&.Urs.Blum
Investment: $27 per class or buy a 5 class pass for $115 (valid for 8 weeks). Ideally you bring your own mat, blanket and any prop you require. Private sessions with Urs are also available.
Beginners to Ashtanga & Newcomers to Yoga
If you are keen to join our regular classes but are new to Ashtanga, we offer you a one-on-one intro session (45 mins) with Urs at a special rate of $40 (additional fee if extra travel required). This gives us time to explain the practice in more detail and we also get to know you better. And you can check us out too! Alternatively you can attend a few guided Ashtanga classes at the Shala on Monday mornings first. If you have previous yoga experience and would like to join our classes, please contact us to have a chat.

Monthly New Moon Astrology Workshop Series

Date for the next workshop TBA
6-8.30pm, Hawea Flat, Cost $ 75
As a female astrologer, I take great interest in the moon. It represents us women and symbolizes the attributes of intuition, nurturing and caring. It is my intention to bring this heavenly entity closer to you with this workshop about the moon’s position in your personal birth chart and its story in your life.
The New Moon is a crucial time in the monthly cycle. Anybody who has observed the rhythms of the moon and its effect on us will acknowledge its powerful energy.
These workshops are stand-alone, individualized, open to everybody and limited to seven participants.
Happy moon gazing
Doris
